I have several Steyr M95 carbines. Three have bolts that work fairly easy and one that binds up on occasion and works hard. This is when the bolt is worked without loaded rounds.

The major difference in the bolts is that the ones that work smooth have not been cleaned and still have a very fresh coating of cosmoline in them with the consistency of Vaseline. The bolt that works hard has been cleaned and lightly greased. This same bolt worked as easy as the others the others before it was cleaned of cosmoline and lightly greased.

How much grease should I use on my sticky/binding bolt? I did replace the extractor to see if that was part of the problem but it did not help. I am thinking that maybe these bolts need to have a good coating of grease to allow them to operate correctly.
