I have an old Stevens 87A from late 40's. It was tapped from the factory for a weaver side mount. I have one installed now that I put on it about 40 yrs ago. I bought a new scope, but the lense are bigger and I need to raise the cope mount higher. Does anyone make a side mount that is higher to fit the original mounting holes? Or new rings that are higher to fit the old side mount. I think it was a tip off mount, but don't know if they are still the same. Thanks.

Okay, found the pictures. Bewarned they are freakin' HUGE!

The Weaver base with the holes widened to accomodate the Savage factory screws

base screwed into place

The modified Weaver mount, note that the built-in rings were re-shaped into dovetails.

The rings and then Simmons scope added

The finished product, the secret is that the mount is canted. My brother-in-law did not have the rifle to work from, so he eyeballed about where the scope should go and its a bit to the right. However, since I am cross-eye dominant, it prints spot-on for me.

My artsy "gun rag" photo.
