Does any one know where to find photos of the Singapore Police Force 308 CG-63 sniper rifles please? From memory they were CG63E's with a CG scope mounted on a short rail mount. The receivers were marked "SPF". I'm looking for photos of them. Thanks

These were not CG63E rifles with the Parker-Hale sight , but CG63 rifles with the GF diopter sights . These were also offered for sale in the USA without scopes . Not sure who did the scope mouting , CG or SPF . For some photos , see my reply to the topic " Swedish Magic ".

Yes that's the SPF sniper I was thinking about...thanks.

Finally got my 308 OB CG-63 this week. Its the same as your SPF photo with CG diopter (but without the scope/mount) but has a straight m96 bolt. The only marking on the barrel is "308" just in front of the receiver. Apart from that it looks just like any other CG-63.

The Swedes did not mark the calibur on their CG63's in 6.5 or 7.62 Nato .

The only " SPF " sniper that I know of all the markings had " 7.62 x 51 m/m " marked on the barrel as well as " BNP w/crown " . The receiver & bolt handle also had the " BNP w/crown " . These are British markings probably done in Singapore . These had the forged down bolt that was ground flat on the top side & number matched on the bottom of the bolt ball .

So , your 308 marking was probably done by a civilian or importer .

BNP proof marks

Swede,
any BNP proof mark could only have been done in Birmingham. There is no corresponding proof system in Singapore, and it would not use the Birmingham marks even if such a proof system existed.

It is most likely that a rifle with BNP marks was once tested and prepared for sale in the UK, where it is a legal requirement to have a rifle correctly proofed for the cartridge it is chambered for, before it was sold elsewhere. Given the strong historical links between Singapore and the UK it would also be possible the Swedish rifles had to pass Birmingham proof before their acceptance for use in the Singaporean forces. Perhaps Arilar could throw some light on the contracts that were put in place for the supply of these rifles.

It is my understanding that a firearms dealer in the UK got all the Singapore snipers when they were surplused . So , that is probably when they received the British proofs ? Nothing more is known about this contract at this time .

was

The gf diopter on these usable? I wouldn't want to be downrange from one, but at the same time, would not usually thing of a GF as being a police sight... especially at night...

Secondly, what scopes were used?

Thirdly, Does anyone have access to any of the documents associated with these rifles

fouthly, that scope mount is that,

fifth, where is the rifle in the picture

finally, does anyone know any history on how long these guns were in service, the details surounding their service, the details surounding surplussing, etc.

although nostalgia and my collecting bias fuels much of my thought, I can hardly see how one could have a better intermediate range sniper rifle than one of these save for the natural limitations of the stock being wood, that potential lack of durabilityout of swedish hands (case in point, my 7mm el sal model 94,). I would love to have one of those guns from a practical or collectors point of view. Of course, on a practical level, my persian mauser action with mcmillan a5, cryoverything, and L/W fluted bull, german sidemount, teflon coated, tactical vx111, etc, etc, is a more practical incarnation of the whole 6.5 dream, though not as light and not as historically correct. I do love swedish mausers and 6.5 x 55--Long live both!! Mauserdoc

Thanks , mauserdoc
