Hello all, new member here. I inherited a Spencer model 1865 rifle from my grandfather and in researching I've seen mention of an SRS Serial Number Database. Wondering if someone may be able to help or point me in the right direction to see if SN# 26103 pulls up any info. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Does yours have the cutoff? My carbine does. Seems it is about 50% for each. You know Spencer took one to the White House trying to bypass ordnance and he and Abe shot it outside the white house. Abe shot well and liked the rifle. They were pretty well thought out and ahead of most at the time.

I doubt SRS will have anything but let us know if you find out anything else.

There is very little published data about M1865 Spencer serial numbers. I believe SRS is primarily based on Civil War records and only includes M1860 numbers. You might be able to narrow down likely usage based on any markings (in the metal or wood), the presence and type of cutoff device, and configuration (rifle or carbine).

Thank you both for the info! I took the gun in to a gunsmith the day I posted this, so I don’t have it in front of me to check or verify the things you described. As soon as I get it back I will respond with some more info and pics. Appreciate it!
