"pymi"

A while back I posted asking if a member who handloads could roll me some inert/drilled rounds for use in some education and show & tells I do for area youth.

pymi responded to my request within minutes and today a box with some beautiful, inert rounds in 3 flavors arrived. These will satisfy the police requirements for use at my daughter's history class when they hit the WWII unit.

And the rounds will also allow me to let the boys from the YMCA have a chance to load a stripper clip in x54r and 8mm at the indoor range where we do the annual Father/Son .22 safety training and shoot in November. (We do light off some 54r blanks indoors with the range lights off during the last session, if the boys have behaved well.)

Thanks again pymi--members like you make this place special!

Here's a couple photos of the youth groups...the Fathers and Sons...

The Dads & Daughters

And a slightly bigger gun we had at a Dad & Daughter Spring campout in 2006. (I got to "pull the string"!

In 2007, I took a 91/30 sniper for Dads & Daughters and had quite a line of Dads wanting to take a couple shots. Only a couple Daughters tried it, however.

It's great that you live in a community that allows such events. Not in my Democratic part of Ohio.

The director of the local YMCA gets a bit "puckered" when my son and I teach the Fathers & Sons safety sessions and bring a little show and tell into the daycare room. One year we lost a plastic practice round when one of the boys dumped a .38 we had loaded with 6 onto the floor. We spent an hour looking for that sucker and finally found it about 10 feet away, under the upright piano!

(Should anyone want a copy of the training manual I put toghter for this, PM me and I will send you a PDF that you can use for similar events.)

There sure has been a lot of talk about cigars going on here lately. You guys are making me want to start smoking again. Not really I'm done with that. I now use that money for more guns or ammo which ever I need the most at the time.

Shyquestor,
From your signature line it looks like you live south of Pittsburgh. I'm home visiting my partents where I grew up, just south of Uniontown, 'bout an hour's drive away. In my youth I used to drive up to AB Charles, a neat old hobbyshop in Dormont. Hear they have new digs, will have to make time to drive up and check them out.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to educate and inform the kids and their parents! Down in my new home near Baltimore they'd call out the SWAT team and have me arrested for even bringing the subject up. All it takes here in the land of hysteria is a crayon drawing of a firearm to bring out the pitchforks and torches (well, maybe not the pitchforks, as sharp instruments they were melted down and hammered into plowshares a long time ago). Bless you for doing such a good job!

mawkie--I am in Bethel Park. Have spent thousands at AB Charles on rockets and models over the years. New location is McFarland and Beverly Rd, where the harware store used to be. Not as nice IMHO. Used to know Uniontown fairly well. Had a buddy on Stewart Ave. Now the by-pass keeps me from going through on my way to Deer Valley and Mt . Davis.

Next time you come in, let me know in advance and "Let's Go Shoot!".
