I am afraid that cartoon has nothing to do with bomb disposal!

It is by Bruce Bairnsfather and is one of his famous "Old Bill" series. In this case he is lampooning the British Tommy's habit of collecting the brass fuzes from unexplded shells.

Never the less, it is a lovely plate.

Unless that fuze has left handed threads There is going to be a big boom in the near future!:laugh:
Picked up Bairnsfather's book many years ago at a shop in Birmingham.

I love any of the British humourous items like this. They are timeless as the British Tommy or Squadie hasn't changed much over the years.

Bairnsfather was one of the very few cartoonists whose humour was acceptable to the troops at the front. Unfortunately his business acumen was not as good as his drawing, and he made several loss-making investments in various projects which left him in rather poor circumstances in later years
