I curse the day I traded a beautiful CZ82 for a Santa Fe JC.
The rifle was presented as a great looking hunting piece, but it turned out to be full of bubba work.
When I got it, it had a s&k scope base attached to a cut up charger bridge. After a few shots, the scope base came off , along with the bridge . I've replaced the bridge and reattached the no gunsmith scope base, that by the way also went through bubba's hands, so I had to modify it to make it stay in place. For about 100 rounds it seemed like all the hassle I went through payed off. The rifle is ridiculously accurate, it prints touching groups at 50 yards with surplus ammo.
Last week at the range a piece of the scope mount broke off making the rifle unusable again.
It seems like there's been some bad vibes hanging around this gun from the beginning and I should have just sold it for parts and not mess with it, but by now I've gone so far with all the work I did to it that it's hard to make a decision on continuing the project or just giving up.
What would be the easiest/ best /cheapest solution to reattach some form of aiming system to this rifle ? Again, it is very accurate so it seems like it should have a scope on it, but I'm to the point to where I just want to make it shootable again and get it out of my house.
Looking for suggestions on my options.

Darn it, since no one was responding I went ahead and ordered an ATI mount . Research shows that the no drill mounts are not staying on No1's very well, but I figured, if I find a fairly mild load for it , perhaps it'll stay. The surplus ammo has so much recoil in this short barrel that it feels like the rifle is about to fall apart , yet it is extremely accurate.

I received the ATI mount. This thing looks like a joke. The old mount was held by a band in front and a wedge on the charger bridge and this thing has a screw thread biting into metal in front and two tiny allen screws pushing it away from the charger bridge. I'm going to give it a benefit of doubt and mount it, but after destroying two scopes and a fairly strong mount, I don't think this thing will hold. Interestingly, I have not found a single rewiev of this mount on the internet, I might just take a video camera and make my own on Youtube .

Build a mount....

Okay, you just found out that more fishin' lures are built to catch fishermen than there are that are designed to catch fish. ATi's stuff is a case in point. Now you need to get a mount. For this time, go to Brownell's and get their drill and tap mount. It works just fine, and you won't destroy a third scope.

BTW, what did you do with the remains? Most manufacturers will repair 'em for less than new.

This band is actually steel. It wraps around the receiver and it was the strongest part of the setup. I'm thinking about doing what you just suggested except I will use the old mount, attach it to the band on one side and drill /tap through the bridge on the other side.
Worse case scenario, I will part the gun and sell it as parts.
