Saw a nice looking LSA at a show today - volley sights present, visible inspections stamps where expected, all matching components. Only downside: the bore is slightly dark, though rifling is decent. The seller is asking $650. Is this price within a reasonable ball park for this model? Also, assuming it checks out with a gunsmith, can this model take factory 303 Brit?

Excellent price, and factory .303 is what it was made for.

Update on SMLE Mk 1

I went back to buy it and, on closer inspection, discovered it to be a 1906 LSA Mk I***. I bought it.:D Too, after running some patches down the bore, it actually has a clean bore -- someone took pretty damn good care of this baby.

So my question is this: The brass unit disc in the stock has an "A" at 12:00 and "279" at 5:00. Can anyone tell me anything about these markings?
