I will be watching the results of this excavation with a lot of interest. I am a metal detectorist and love finding artifacts!

I always get confused. When someone says Confederate Prison I wonder if its a prison by Rebs or for Rebs.

I would guess that a prison excavation would produce much fewer items than a winter camp.
The prisoners didn't have much to lose or dispose of.

The guards would have had more to throw away or lose though? I like this kind of stuff, I guess you could call me a history buff.

Actual origin was Salisbury, England - home of The Red Lion Inn - a charming antique carriage inn where I stayed a couple of days while venturing out into the surrounding area where Stonehenge is located.

I figured the one in NC was copied from the one in England. There is one in MA as well, maybe other US locations. My older brother and I were there on an antique hunt. Every shop we stopped he would ask where he could get a good Salisbury Steak. Not one caught onto the gag.

After a few phone calls re: Salisbury, the word is.....lots of digging and excitement but little or no artifacts.
