Slight sight problem

Got a new M48 from CTD for a good price and cleaned the cosmoline up and put 2 coats BLO on, looks pretty good. Has new bore and bolt appears new, nice rifle. The forearm was lighter in color so I rubbed a little stain in it to match stock better, looks good except for being so thick out ahead of the rear sight you can't see the sights unless the sight elevation is moved up a couple of clicks. I have a 24/47 and a M48B as well and the wood is a lot thinner, this one is way thicker, I guess I can sand it down.
