Does anyone use a recoil buffer on their SKS ? Do these work and are they a good idea, or not needed ?

Thanks,
Chuck

I can't imagine why they'd be a good idea. The rifle was designed without the need for one, the recoil is gentle to begin with, and once the buffer starts to break down, you will have loose little pieces of plastic floating around inside your action.

Stay away from them. They are a joke! In fact, many times when an SKS of any make fails to feed properly, we find out they have a recoil buffer. Take it out and no more feed problems. A Yugo M59/66 or M59/66A1 is especially disliking of that buffer.

If you feel you must use one, the Black Jack "H" buffer is the way to go. The others that fit in the receiver cover have the recoil transmitted into the cover and it screws up the retaining pin.

As far as I know the bolt carrier on an SKS or AK is not supposed to impact the rear trunnion or cover. If it does your using the wrong bullet weight, weak spring or overgassed. And please don't pull up the slow motion AK firing showing it whacking the rear trunnion. This is not supposed to be happening no matter what you are seeing.

I don't know for the SKS, BUT I can guarantee you that they are indeed WORTHLESS on an AK. I put the "black jack" buffer on my 74, and within the first thousand rounds, it started catching the bolt carrier and screwing up feeding! What....messing up my AK's reliability! Off to the trashcan it went ASAP! I wouldn't bother with it.

All it would do is mess up the wonderful wacky sounds the rifle makes when firing.

With no ear protection it just goes bang, but when I have the earmuffs on I can hear a bizarre Russian symphony of wacky sounds every time I pull an SKS trigger. Why ruin it with unneeded parts?

Buffers are a waste of money and can actually interfere with the guns proper function!
The only time i ever heard of a buffer working was on a receiver where the rail was to short and the entire bolt carrier jumped off the rails but with a buffer it would work fine!
