I am going to pick one of these up. However, I was curious to see if anybody has opinions on the various receiver mount models.

I see that some have 4 stabilization screws that butt up against the receiver. Some are just a receiver cover without the stability screws. Some have accessory mounts, but maintain a see through port so that the original sights can be used.

Are the stabilization screws helpful or do they add a lot of stability? Looks logical for stability to have these, but it seems like these might mung up the bluing on the receiver. I can't tell if the front of the receiver cover really provides the stability with the covers that are 'size to fit' rather than stability screws.

I have had little experience with these scope mounts..my first experience was..well lets say it nipped my desire for one of these in the bud. First..the one mounted on its own receiver cover did not readily seat on the receiver. Some filing and dremel work finally got it to fit. After about 30 rounds the cross hairs went hinky on me. I think the recoil is hard on this type of scope and mount. I think it is in a pile of other SKS stuff..cheap bi-pod, Chinese 20 round fixed mag that never worked, high cap duckbill Zytell mag and a synthetic stock which added too much weight. There might be a scout mount that seats on the rear sight block that might work better.

reciever cover mounts for sks are junk.

the cover mounts are garbage--the same crap that creates the goofy looking "sniper" rifles you see on sale for 599 with ugly black furniture, cover mount, falling appart bipod, and a Leapers tacical scope..... This stuff is all junk. if you put it on there, it shakes constancly, falls off, and will never work right or hold a reasonable zero. If you want a real gun, use a scout set up or one drilled in on the side. The only thinn the others are good for is to show to people who don't know what they are looking at and either impress them or sell them a tactical sniper gun.... Just my two cents after having been exposed to the sks garbage floating around out there. I have looked at most of it and continue to look for descent additions--see my thread where I have been asking over the last few days about sks tapco 20 rounders. Mauserdoc

Thanks!

Thanks for the info on these!

I was tempted, but they seemed like something that would not be solid.

It truly depends on how you are going to shoot your sks. The receiver cover scope mounts work great at 75 yards or LESS with a holographic sight (red dot). At 75 yards or more you need a solid mount like the Choate or Allchin (drill and tap to the receiver).

There are people that take great pride in shooting at 100 yards or more. The truth is most of use just plunk at 75 yards or less. I know I do.

If you have a receiver cover scope mount that has not been filed to fit I will take it off your hands
