not a question about specific sizing, but the issue of clothing...

were troops issued jackets and trousers separately, each respectively in the appropriate size, or was a complete set of clothing issued in a matching pair of the same size, or ? i.e. if you needed an m44 jacket and g48 trousers, is that what you would recieve, or would you be given a 'set' of g48 and be left to alter or trade the jacket for the appropriate size?

This is a funny subject...
I'm not sure how the sizing was dealt with, but the friend of mine who served in the last few months of th DDR was issued a set of BDUs that were way too big for him...he is a pretty small guy...and he couldn't have been bothered to ask for an appropriate size. He did however end up sorting old uniforms in a warehouse at his Kaserne...he told me they had to sort stuff out by size and to match trousers with jackets...making sure the sizes matched....whether this was standard NVA practice, or just preparation for the coming garage sale of NVA gear is unclear.
Perhaps some of the Alte Hasen here could shed some light on the subject.
