I picked up another $20 bayonet at the swap meet today and need help with the ID. I've looked through my bayonet books and can't seem to find it. The only markings are the Simpson & Co Suhl on the right side of the ricasso and a ser# on the right side of the pommel. The blade is 11" and darkly blued. It has a tall muzzle ring.
Any ideas?

Looks like a M1893/95 type. What rifles have you tried it on?

It looks like a Chilean 1895 without the Chilean markings, did Simpson & Co make bayonets for Chile?
I don't collect South American guns, only bayonets, so I don't have a rifle to try it on.

Your bayonet is a portugal conversion of M1904 Verqueiro Mauser bayonet for MPi34 from Steyr. New crossguard, hilt was shortened and new grips were added.

I believe the original plan was for Steyr to supply M1895 bayonets to go with the MP34, however, Portugal decided to economize by converting some of the M1904 bayonets they already had. It should mount to your Austrian M1895 straight-pull Mannlicher, if you don't happen to have a MP34 in your safe.

You're right, It fits an M1895 better than the M1895 bayonet I got for $20 in the same deal. I also picked up an unissued Enfield #9 bayonet, coated with plastic, in the wraper, for $10 from the same guy.
