I bought a SigArms GSR 1911 TTT. Although it shoots very nicely, there are some nagging quality control issues:

1. The primer indentations are off center, i.e. the firing pin is not concentric with the barrel.
2. There is a 1/16" pit on the side of the polished feed ramp in the frame.
3. The slide lock lever plunger protrudes too far and has to be pressed back with a screwdriver in order to reinstall the slide lock lever.
4. The two top grip screws were overtorqued; removing them also removed the bushings.
5. The two grips are not the same thickness at their tops.

I e-mailed SIGARMS requesting replacement grip screw bushings, which were damaged while removing the screws. I have gotten no reply after 8 days.

Is this typical?

I got some replacement bushings so that matter has been taken care of. Compared to my P220 stainless Elite, the GSR 1911 is a disappointment. I am hesitant to return the 1911 to SigArms after reading many reports of poor customer service elsewhere. At least I didn't pay full retail for the thing.

I bought a SIG GSR 1911 when they first came out. It is the stainless frame model. The only issue I have with it is sometimes the slide doesn't lock back after the last round. My experience with SIG customer service has been positive for the most part, but I also had some stripped bushings after I got the 1911 back from SIG. I was removing the grips for cleaning and I noticed the bushings came out with the grip screws...wasn't like that when I sent it in. I have sent them my P226, P229 and GSR 1911 for factory tune-ups. I would call them since they are not responding to your emails. Good luck.

I found a UPS packet at my door when I came home this evening. It's from SigArms and contained two grip bushings and two screws. I never got a reply to my e-mail reporting the problem with the overtorqued grip screws.

Well, I guess that counts as "customer service" but I would have appreciated an answer to my e-mail. I already bought two bushings and fixed the problem.

Follow up: I rcvd and e-mail from SigArms technical support today requesting confirmation of my mailing address. They are mailing me a UPS shipping label to return my 1911 TTT for repair.

So, SigArms does answer e-mail; you just have to wait 7-14 days for a reply.

Update

I received a UPS overnight label from SIG in mid-December, but waited until after the holidays and shipped it off Jan 5. It was received the next day.

Today I got an e-mail from SIG informing me that the pistol could not be repaired and to provide the name and address of a FFL to receive and transfer the new replacement. I went to the local Gander Mountain where I bought it and was told they would be happy to handle the paperwork for $79.99(!)

It seems that since I paid a price match for the pistol, I would have to pay the normal fee Gander Mountain charges for transfer paper work. After reminding the young manager of the number of guns I bought last year at his store, he offered to do the transfer for $50. I pointed out that, although I paid a price match, he did not have to offer it, nor did I have to buy the pistol at his store when I could have gotten the same one, probably not as defective, at a local gun store. The manager told me to take it or leave it.

I left it. Being an old army plans and operation officer, I took the precaution of calling the owner of a gun shop 30 miles outside of town where I have done some business before talking to the Gander Mountain manager. The owner charges $25 for transfer documentation. BTW the SIG customer service agent apologized for not being able to pay the transfer fee, but offered to include some extra magazines as compensation.

Something to consider when buying a gun at Gander Mountain.

I am impressed by the Sig Service and not surprised by Gander Mountain...they are in many ways the K-Mart of the outdoor business...Bass Pro being the Wal-mart...glad you got it taken care of...I have no experience with Sig 1911's other than handling one in a gun store...I do have experience with Sig double-actions and they are fine pieces in my opinion. For 1911's I think Springfield and Kimber are solid and proven choices in the same general price range. Hope the new Sig is a winner.

The original SIG TTT was an excellent shooter. It has a compact adjustable rear sight which I like that is not used by any other maker AFAIK. The flaws I found probably would have gone unnoticed by most people, but I'm retired army and have been shooting and inspecting 1911's for a long time. I bought a P220 .45 stainless Elite at the same store and am thoroughly impressed by its fit and finish, not to mention how it shoots. This is why I leaned toward SIG for a 1911 instead of Kimber, Colt or S&W.

The SIG service has been a bit slow, both in answering e-mails and in turning around my service job, but at least they do answer. They promised 10-14 working days but responded in 19. The holiday workload coupled with the severe weather in New England recently make this reasonable.

I'm not done with Gander Mountain. Considering the amount of $ I spent on guns and supplies there last year, I would expect some consideration. The salesmen I deal with are knowledgeable and honest, but their young manager needs to be replaced by someone who values his customers at least as much as his pay check.
