Here is my strange and rare Finn sling and it's rifle (1942 VKT m91):

Wide brown leather, rectangle buckle, oddly stitched together (to get it to proper m91 length, maybe?...what was the sling ORIGINALLY used with, I wonder)...and,...not 1, not 2, but THREE [SA] stamps!!...haven't seen one like this one before...

I'm not sure how rare they are, but I only have a handful of slings that came with my Finnish rifles. Here's three. None are marked. The detached sling with the protective flap for the button came with the Type 30.

Your sling is not Finnish- it appears to be a French sling.

First time I've seen one dark brown llike that. Most often they are light tanned and undyed in color.

Just to start. I don't know whether it is rare or uncommon or what but it is the only one I have seen like it. It is on a M91, a 1903 Sestroryetsk.

The one from the Arisiaka or the M91? I know that the rubberized canvas sling on the M91/30 is Finnish. I assume you are referring to the one from the Arisaka. It is definitely different than anything I usually see, but who knows where that rifle could have picked up the sling.

The one with the black enameled buckle and the little leather button flap cover. If it was on a Arasaka maybe per chance it came from French Indo china.

Yes, it came with the Type 30. Considering the places this rifle is evidenced to having been, I think that it being put on in the States is probably likely if it is a French sling, but I guess anything is possible. The rifle certainly had been many places prior to the 1930's and who knows where it went afterwards. The sling has the look like it was on the rifle for a very long time adjusted to be slightly taught before I removed it.
