This is the last caliber I shoot that I don't reload for.

What kind of realistic accuracy can I get with an excellent condition Yugo?
The cost of new-loaded combloc ammo is just not that high, but if it groups better, I might get some dies...

I usually get 5"ish 5-shot groups from unsupported prone with the 'Military Classic' commercial stuff, and not noticable better with the brass cased surplus stuff. A bench shooter could do better with decent reloads, but is it worth it? Realistically I couldn't expect anyone to consistently shoot under 3" 5-shot groups, at least not with open sights.

I'm thinking for most people, probably not. Here's a little test that could be done.... Buy a box of Lapua 7.62x39 123gr. FMJ ammo, it's expensive @ about $35 a box but it's as close as you'll ever come to a commercial "match grade" loading in this caliber. If the Lapua shoots way better than your garden variety steel cased Russian (ie. Tula, Wolf, etc.) or corrosive brass cased Bulgarian milsurp etc, then it might be worth the time, effort, and expense to reload this caliber, and Lapua components are available for reloading the 7.62x39 if you should ever decide to do it, and the brass is boxer primed so no worries there.

I have had exellent results with cast bullets in my x39 rifles. If you have interest in casting your own bullets you can improve acccuracy and save money at the same time. The Lee mold that I use can be bought for around $25.

Tried three kinds of ammo today.
Worst by far was the brass-cased milsurp Yugo.
Zinc-plated Russian RUAG/Ammotec USA was good, around 2 inches at fifty yards for five shots.
The best was Wolf Softpoints with 1 1/2 inches at fifty yards (best group of five).

Is that Wolf even available anymore?!?!
I must have gotten that stuff five years ago.

I think I'll just invest in ammo. That's pretty damn good for a semi-auto with a creeeeeeeepy trigger.

I get about 4MOA from Lapua in both of my Yugo SKSs. Lapua is the only fodder I've come across with true .311" diameter projo's. Everything else is .310" & under. One of the most accurate handloads, at least in my Norinco SKSs, is the 125grain .308" Ballistic Tips.
