Interesting rifle.
I couldn't explain why it was shortened, but the buttplate looks homemade to me. Copper is easy to work, but it is a good job. Top tang looks too broad to be original issue.
Have had a couple Type I's, but like you didn't have much interest and sold them at first opportunity.
