So I heard there's two sizes for the UTV straps and belts; something like a 10cm difference.

Can anyone comment on this?

BTW, are there any photos of troops wearing the UTV system (other than that silly one with the upside down E-tool)out there?

yes, apparently so, but references on this scale of issue is thin on the ground... my assertion is based on these listings from which i bought my UTV y-straps and belt:

other than the misleading pic you mention, there are also a couple of other [also misleading] pics circulating, which first appeared as scans on militaryphotos... however, they are not in fact contemporary; they are from a europa militaria book on wehrmacht/ss camo and post-war derivatives and show a mismatched and incorrectly worn impression created for the book.

gowen [dare i mention that name here lol] sent me a couple of decent reference pics he did of a UTV impression... posted them on an earlier thread.

There has to be some additional information. Even the just the lengths of the straps and belt would be useful.

I have noticed that some of my suspenders have a date stamp NVA I/U an a K...which i would assume would mean Kurz or short...but I've seen no difference between them and those without a K. As for the lengths of the belts....I've seen no difference.
What doesn get me is that the suspenders I have are dated for 1978.....very strange.

web gear (of various nations) comprises a large part of my collection, and i'm always interested in this kind of info...

surely there must be an official instruction booklet for UTV and previous-issue DDR web gear out there? i've never seen one as yet, and although they often aren't distributed to all those issued the kit, with most equipment sets there are published regulations for assembly, wear and maintainance etc...
