Hi, just a quick question about shooting rifled slugs through smooth bore shotguns with fixed chokes. I heard that shooting them with screw in chokes is a big no no. I have a 70's baikal SxS 12ga. It is choked 1/2 and full. My mate gave me a pkt of federal 1oz hollow points but don't know if i should risk damaging my gun. cheers.

They should be fine even through screw in chokes as long as its not a full, extra full or turkey. They have been around a long time, and they were made to be shot through just about any choke.

I have a 20 gauge 870 w/ factory modified choke. I inherited it from my dad. When I received the gun, the gun shop told me not to run slugs through it. Somebody else told me it should be fine, so I don't know? Contact the manufacturer and see what they say, at least that would be my advice. I need to do the same with Remingtom.

Good Luck,

Modified is fine. the Foster slugs are a soft alloy and the "rifling" (not really) helps them squeeze through. I would not bother with "maximum" loads, however for accuracy reasons, not pressure.

A lot of factories try to stop you from using slugs on anything but a slug barrel for reasons of:
1. Some folks are idiots and will make up stupid loads
2. It helps them sell more special slug barrels
3. Lawyers, who sue for any and all reasons.

BTW the absolute worst accuracy in my guns was with Brennecke slugs. The fuzzy edges of the wad attached to the base steered the Brennecke any which way.

I fired dozens of CAC and winchester brand rifled slug loads through my fathers 1970's era Baikal under/0ver,choked modified and full (but actually it was full and fuller according to a choke gauge) about 30 yrs back and it never did a bit of harm to the gun,the slugs just get swaged down when they pass through the choke as they are designed to.
