Is it legal to ship a replica 1860 army cap and ball pistol through the US Mail?
If not what is the most economical way to ship one? It is going to a gunsmith to be slicked up.

Yes, it is not considered a firearm by U.S. law (however it *IS* a firearm if you are unfortunate enough to live in New Jersey)

Last week I shipped a Black Powder Revolver and Rifle by FedEx Ground - no FFL is required by Shipper or Buyer.

I find their rates cheaper than USPS , there is full tracking info and packages are insured for $100 in base rate.

There are some state laws that cause issues in shipping B.P. pistols, but that is all.
