I am trying to find out information on a Chicago? area firearms engraver active in the late 1970's who signed his work with a depiction of a Quail in fight.

I have a Colt Cobra of the period with light scroll engraving on the cylinder, owners name on backstrap and a flying quail depicted on the hump below the hammer and before the start of the backstrap. I assume Chicago area as the lady who owned it was a Doctor in Chicago. There are no names or markngs on the frame under the grips.

Might go to your library and get copies of GUN DIGEST for the period in question and see who is listed as active engravers, then start asking around.

Thanks for the Gun Digest suggestions. I will look but it may not help unless the man is named Bob White or Mr. Quail! The point being to tie an engraver's name to what I take to be his symbol.
