I went to the range today for the first time with a good friend of mine. All was going well, and after the final cease fire I wanted to show him how easy it was to disassemble the mosin. Well be pulled a little too hard and droped the bolt face down.

This is my first mosin, and rifle in general so i am very distressed. I just had the headspacing checked and the gunsmith who did the safety inspection gave me a very good deal and was very informative and insightful. I have a few pics of the bolt, I put a few more rounds through the rifle without complication, but I'm new to the sport and dont know if i have to get a new bolt/bolt head. I dont really want to since the bolt has matching numbers to the reciever. I know its a rugged rifle (m44 by the way.) Am i just overreacting?

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a few pics. The scratch is on the left side. They are large in size to show detail. Sorry for the unsteady pics, cheap camera. :(

Well, when I back out of photobucket, my computer freezes up, so I won't access your pics. If it is a superfical scratch, ignore it. If it created a burr on the rim around the face, use a needle file to smooth it. I would guess that you did no serious damage by just dropping it. I'll wait for others to comment after they see the pics. DDR

Thanks for the help, just getting into collecting mosins, and Ive spent months online on all the sites you guys have created/linked to before I finally got one. Figured now since I actually have fired and own a mosin I should probably register here, heh i guess being anal about a scratch is a good enough reason if any.

Back to lurking :p I know i probably havent even scratched the surface of all the info thats here.

Hey don't worry--I dropped my unissued Persian Mauser crown-first onto concrete before I even got to shoot it. It scuffed up the crown something awful. Now that's a real screwup!
