So i get this belt in the mail and its supposed to be a 8mm maxim belt

but the tabs are marked SA and 7.62x54 seems to fit better (tighter) than 8mm-8mm can push right through the pockets in some places

it has the spacer tabs every 3 pockets just like a maxim belt...

so...is it a 8mm belt or 762?...did the Finns ever use 8mm...did they simply stuff 762 into 8mm belts and stretch em?

the belt works in my 8mm maxim but its important to carefully check that each round is seated an equal depth into the belt

any comments?

Without further description of the belt (brass or steel rivets, fingers, tabs (steel tabs often galvanized); other markings on tabs; ink stamped graduations for round count such as 25, 50, 75 etc; light or heavy canvas; sewn front edge; new or used, etc, etc) it is difficult to pinpoint as the Russians made huge quantities of fabric Maxim belts for the 1910s, many of which wound up in Finland and many other places. A pic is worth a thousand words, too.

Finns did use 8mm Maxims. After the civil war there were 122 pieces of them in Finnish Army inventories. They were sold in 1924 to Poland.

Then Finnish Army bought 998 weapons from Germany in 1941. Remaining weapons were sold to Interarmco in 1960.

So, Maxim m/08 saw some use in Finland. It seems, that original belts were used.
