I met my brother at the Phoenix Crossroads show on Saturday. I needed ammo, he wanted help with his first pistol.

He found one that was comfortable, and priced at the show with various vendors, and decided on the Sigma 40VE.

I am not familiar with these at all, wondering if anyone has one, and can relate any experience.

Thanks!

Only mistake he made was that he should have bought it in 9mm, cheaper practise! Forget about the anti Sigma arm chair commandos, they are good solid accurate reliable guns. You HAVE to shoot it with both thumbs forward, and beginners tend to yank down on the triggers (same with a Glock) and shoot low.

Thanks for the response. And you are right. Gotta get used to that trigger. I went ahead and bought one my self yesterday. Had a chance to shoot it today. Once i stabilized my grip, and got the site picture down, very nice! And accurate. I think this one will replace my other .40 cal. 4 more in the mag, and much easier to handle.

As for cheap to shoot? I just bought 250 reloads for $52 from a local vendor. Guarantees his stuff. Been using his reloads for about 2 years now.

I have the 9mm and love it. It may just be me, but it by far out shoots my Beretta 92FS. The only thing I don't like about it is the price of additional mags. IMO, it's a perfect little CCW gun. Not too big or heavy.

I have one in .40 and find it eats any ammo I feed it reliably, and is quite accurate with practice. I'd suggest shooting it, THEN do a google search of "sigma trigger fix" It involves the removal of a couple springs which isn't too very technical. I tried it on mine and found it reduced the trigger pull poundage substantially. Not the travel... just the pull weight. Some folks even have sent it back to S&W to get the same modification.
Overall, a reliable and fun shooter at a great price.

Sigmas have a bad reputation -I think- because they were the first Glock clones and people really went at them. I seen the 9mm versions pop up in the strangest places/countries and the users swear by them. "like American Buick! Always works"

I agree that the less than stealer reputation probably isn't deserved. I had a couple when the first hit the market. They worked just as they were intended but didn't have the cool factor of the Glock.

I went with a friend of mine when she was looking to buy a Sigma (they were on sale at the local Gander Mountain at the time).

She and I BOTH were disappointed by the HEAVY, HEAVY trigger pull. Did I say the trigger pull was heavy? It was. Enough so that she (we) decided to pass it up.

She bought a very lightly used CZ75D they had at about the same price instead. Best gun-buying decision she ever made.

Thanks again for the responces. Actually, my other .40 is a CZ40P :) I have put 100's of round through the CZ, and 200 through the SIGMA so far. The trigger on the SIGMA was my biggest hurtle, but once I got used to it, no problems. The CZ ain't going anywhere.

Funny how ppl have completely different experiences. I hated my sigma and traded it for a Beretta! Mine was in .40 and I couldn't hit a trashcan lid target at 10 yds. Of course this was 10+ years ago when the sigma came out, so they might be better then what I had.

The first couple years production of the Sigma required a lot of work to get them to feed reliably, so avoid early ones. This is unfortunately typical of the gun business, getting the first set of buyers to pay to complete development of a reliable product. You also see it in computers, software, cars....
