Is there any way, short of taking the revolver to a gunsmith, to lighten the trigger pull on my 686 Smith? Single action is okay, but double action is VERY heavy, and I'd like it to be a bit lighter. I know that altering the pull in any way is also going to affect single action, but I just want to lighten the double action pull a decent amount.

Any thoughts?

The short answer is no, you can't lighten the DA trigger pull in a S&W revolver. You can lighten it somewhat by polishing internal moving parts, but this is a job best left to experts and the result isn't usually worth the money and can effect the DA reliability, ie. don't count on it fireing every time you pull the trigger with any and all types of ammo.
