Was looking at a friends M1917, and the bolt release has a rounded "S" stamping on the part, not the squared Savage "S". I also know Savage didn't make parts for the M1917 rifles. Could it be a Stevens, or who would it be? I can't find anything in any reference info about the "S" stamp. Thanks.

NS, look closer, NS is nickle steel, and a Winchester marking

No "N" present, faint or otherwise, only the "S" stamp. Using a nice eye piece for clarity, and magnification.

iv seen them not stamped very well , not aware of any Sedgly made 1917 action parts, bands, buttplates, handguards maybe...
post a picture if you can, that will help.
