Went to a gunshow in Ontario yesterday. Saw a typical RC S/243 1937 with a lovely complete "X" stamped on the top. Shellac with black paint on the disks. Cupped blued buttplate. Typical rough/matte blueing job.

Price? A whopping $550.

I was tempted to ask if the bore was gold plated 24K. LOL

So what's the most outrageous RC price you've seen at gunshows or at gunshops?

I think for $550 this was the most insane RC price I've seen for non SS RC K98s.

One of the regulars at the Austin show was selling them straight out of the box, SITTING on the box, for $425.
He had no idea if the bores were sewer pipes, and the shellac was flaking off like dandruff.

I've seen upwards of $375+ on RC's at some of the local shows. Of course, it's always the same dealers, same guns at all of the local shows. You'd THINK some of these morons would get a clue, but they're more interested in making a buck. Some of the dealers at these local shows don't sell ANYTHING, and I'm sure they lose money on the table fees. At the last BIG show I set up for, I sold almost $2K worth of stuff. I think some of the dealers were mad at me...

I agree with SN1945, the price of R/C's is ridiculous. I was attempting to get a 660 coded rifle off of GB that was RC, but I quit once the bidding topped $350. It ended up going for around $550. Since that, I have all but given up trying to get one until I get my C&R (November when I hit 21) so I can order one for a reasonable price from Empire, Samco, or one of the other well reputable online sites that offers the handpick code/ bore selection. There is no way in Hades that I would pay more than $350 for an R/C. Makes me wonder if I put my Dou 44 r/c up for sale at a show how much I could get some idiot to pay for it. As I have said before, stupid people are going to be the end of the affordable R/C era. But then again, if I could find a chromed honor guard RC k98 or one with a gold plated bore and diamond receiver, maybe then I would pay what some of these half wits are.

I got freaked out by the price of that 1937 since I just recently got an S/243 1938 from gunstore for a mere $295. Walnut stock with Weimar cartouche/laminated handguard. Parts like the triggerguard, front band, bayo lug, mag follower, bolt. rear sight base were all marked WaA280 too so that was extra gravy. Still had the shellac and black paint on the disks. But then again my bore was the typical bore and NOT gold plated 24k like the one above.

I think you bid on Kellanite's 660. It went for $480 which is high for a RC. BUT it was a 1939 and was the highest one I've seen serial wise. So it is an exception to Law's book. Law says 17,000+ were made. So it is a "hard" to find code. That was a C block serial. So it is the new high serial.

That is why it went high. Also was in a Walnut stock, so it matched for a RC.

Some will pay that and do.

Empire won't that cheap either, but Dennis has nice stuff and you aren't bidding against others. Just trying to get there first is the key.

Check this out. I just bought a gold plated Sporter!! I got in a bidding battle for this gun hoping that the metal is all matching. The mauser value appreciation is far from over. At least I hope it isn't. I would hate to think that my kids will not get anything for my guns when I pass on in few decades. Or at least until my wife gets a look at my bill from the auction. 3 new mausers on the way!

DUV42 with sporter barrell but unaltered stock $325
DOT 43 hopefully all matching with damaged stock $140

I have seen an ordinary Soviet capture k98 mauser priced at $550 at a gunshow, what's worse is that I witnessed the sale of same rifle for that price.

I'm just guessing here.....You mean "A" code---not "C" code correct?

Or it may be a badly struck "A" looking like a "C"

"C" would be a HUGE jump in serial numbers for a 660 1939 for sure, and I have never recorded a "B" block 1939 660 code yet either.

I just purchased a 8,000 something serial "A" letter block which is also beyond Law's numbers from a fresh K98 importation.

He said it was a C code. I emailed him and asked since I couldn't tell from the picture.

Relichunter had 7427 B on Gunbroker a while back, I have it in the serial database also. Before that there was a 1420 B on Gunbroker also.
