I purchased this scope about four years ago with the intention of upgrading the 4x Romanian (LPS) on my PSL, but I never got around to using it. Recently I dug it out of the closet and tried to fit it to my rifle only to discover that I bought the wrong variant. :( Evidently, this scope is set-up to mount on the Saiga rail, not the PSL which I would have known if I ever read the manual. :p

I don’t have a Saiga rifle and I’m going to sell this scope, but I’m not sure how to describe it. I did a little searching and found Tantal’s page which explains everything about the various AK mounts as well as this Saiga variant. The problem is that I am still a little confused. Will this scope fit all Saiga rifles? Including the new converted KVAR Saigas? Besides stating that it won’t fit the PSL sniper, the Romanian SAR or WASR or the various Bulgarian AKs, what else should I say?

I have seen these scopes priced between $200 and $300. What’s a realistic sale price?

Thanks to all.

As I have a Saiga 12 being delivered next Friday, I've gone to several sites checking on Saiga scope mounts. From what I've been able to find, there are apparently only two types of mounts, the SVD/PSL/etc mount and the AK/Saiga/etc mount. Presumably your mount should fit all AK type rifles, so I'm not sure what research you found stating that that it won't fit a WASR or SAR. Is there a third type of rail? Since I will be ordering a 1x sight for the Saiga, eventually I'll be able to see if it also fits my WASR, but that won't be for a few more weeks until I can make it home.

There are only two types of sidemount that come on these Russian scopes...One that fits PSL/ Dragunov and one that fits AKM/ Saiga, etc.

Any scope that fits AK/ AKM will also fit the Bulgarian and Romanian AK's. The only AK's w/ the PSL/ Dragunov style rail type (that I know of) were the CUR2 Romanian AK 74 variant (first 74' imported from Romanaia), imported back about 96'. They had PSL/ Dragunov style rail. Other than that, yours should fit all AK/ AKM w/ rail.

Mr. Polytech:

When I read your post, I thought my problem was solved and I could keep the scope. If I understood you properly, my scope would not fit the PSL/SVD or the Romanian CUR2 which had the same rail. Otherwise it should fit other AKs. Bingo! The rifle I attempted to fit the scope onto was an early production Romanian CUR 2 in 5.45 so I thought you were correct.

Since I also have a Romanian AES-10B, I figured I could finally use the scope. When I tried it, I had the same problem encountered earlier on the CUR. The scope would slide about 1/2 way on the rail before the pin on the mount stopped forward movement. :(

Here’s the AES-10B rail:

The scope partially mounted on the rail:

Here’s a photo of the pin preventing any further movement of the scope:

I tried the scope on a friend’s SAR 2 and met with the same exact problem. So I’m back to square one. I can’t use the scope because I don’t have a rifle it fits. When I try to sell it, I need to accurately describe what rifle it’s for.

I did some online searching and found a few photos of the Saiga “sporting” rifle. (By the way, I lost the citations for these photos, so if they belong to someone who wants me to remove them, let me know.)

It appears that the rail is different from the PSL rail and the AK rail. It further appears that the rail is relieved in the area where the pin now stops movement.

Am I safe in assuming that these are the Saiga sporting/hunting rifles referred to in the scope manual and the correct rifle for this scope? What’s the proper model name? Sorry to beat a dead horse, I just don’t want to mislead a purchaser.

Thanks! :)

have you tried adjusting the tension spring to custom fit the scope mount to the rifle? you can find directions on kalinka optics page. That AES-10B rail you show looks similar to the rail I received with a BP-02 and didnt need since I had a different rail on my saiga. I was able to reset the spring position to align with it. Where it is probably catching is the center support and a matter of overall top to bottom length. The saiga rail is the same height at other aks

+1 on the above post, you can adjust the tension so it will fit rifles with different tolerances. Adjust it till it will snugly seat all the way forward.
Greg and Norinco:

Big thanks for the help!

I have no idea how to adjust the clamp so I have more research ahead of me. I'll post again when I succeed or fail. ;)
