I have a ruger 10/22 that my father gave me a while ago and he had it for over 20 years and it show its age and heavy use but my question it it is having issues with feeding shells out of the clips not all the time just occasionally so what is the best rout to take to get it feeding right. Also it seems to be having issues with misfires its cheap ammo but it runs perfect out of my other .22s but it will misfire 2 or 3 times in a row then fire then misfire again any idea how to fix this.

And last i was given a target barrel from a buddy and was told it is just a drop in instillation but was curious is it that easy to just remove the old one and put the new one one and shoot with no outer gunsmithing required.

Thanks Patrick K

Check the firing pin after cleaning the rifle

thoroughly .

Try some quality ammunition like CCI or

Federal .

I had a feeding problem with a magazine

once after someone 'readjusted' the spring

in it . Try a new magazine to test .

As the barrel is concerned , the factory barrel

is heck to remove as it is epoxied in . And ,with

a heavy barrel you'll need a different stock .

Yes, feeding and firing issues are usually due to being in need of a good cleaning. The rotary magazines get sticky and don't feed fast enough. The same for the stick mags.
My 10-22's are not picky and usually cycle any LR ammo including sub-sonics.
I'm not sure about the epoxy on the barrel thing. I bought a rifle a couple years ago that was dissembled and saw no evidence of anything being in the action. The guy lost the barrel retainer so I had to order a new one. I put it back together and it's been a machine ever since.

I'm curious about the epoxied barrels too. I changed the barrel on my early 90's 10/22 and there was no epoxy holding the barrel. I simply removed the "V"-block and the receiver internals, then I tapped out the barrel with a brass punch behind a piece of leather. A little coaxing was all it took. My new barrel was a Green Mountain .920 dia. It needed to have a new stock but you can sand out the orignal stock to fit one. I agree most of the problem you're having is a cleaning issue. Dried oil, grease and power residue will slow down the firing pin enough to cause misfies.

Never saw a 10-22 barrel epoxied from the factory. Have seen Loc tight migrate from scope mount to the barrel joint. Bubba thinks if a little Lock tight is good, more is better.

To address the feeding, clean, clean, clean! The feed lips are built into the magazine so a new one should fix the feeding. Use a factory mag, not aftermarket. If still is erratic after thorough cleaning it might need a new recoil spring and/or firing pin, both available from Brownells, Midway, and Numrich.

I do keep it super clean but I can't figure out how to get the bolt assembly out and don't want to force it invade it breaks. Also is the bolt supposed to stay open when you pull it back with no mag in it or when you run out of ammo.

Brand new 10-22 question. The trigger on mine is horrible. For years I have thought about a trigger kit. But I have not been able to decide on which was the best at the most affordable price. Any suggestions?

I can tell you the cheep spring kits that you see (around $10) do next to nothing.
I was lucky enough to get a great deal on a Volquartsen kit from a guy who lost interest in his custom build project. They still sell something similar. (Around $125) It's not cheep but it does work. Mine breaks clean just over 2lbs. I'd like to see some other input on this also. I have a couple more 10-22's that could use some reasonably expensive trigger help. If that is possible.

it took a little but but i finally got it now it is like a duh moment because how easy it was. I ended up taking it completely apart and put the parts in a sonic cleaner then reassembled it. I even swapped the barrels witch was supper easy it slid right out and i just installed the new one. One last question It is brand new so is there any special way i have to break it in. Thanks pat k

If anybody knows wher I can find the reciver bolt and trigger assembly so I can use the old barrel to make a complete 10/22 so I can give it to my little brother so I can get him into guns to that would be great. Any help would be great

The reciver is a FFL item (it IS the gun according to U.S. law). If you are going to keep the heavy barrel on your rifle you could buy a complete trigger group like the one Volquartsen makes and use the factory one in you build. The barrel "V" blocks are available by several sorces as are most of the other parts.

It's the Dang Ammo

Bought my 10/22 just before the big price increase in 1985, when the ones in stock were selling for $89 & the new ones were gonna hit around a hunnert.

Used to be I'd buy whatever .22 ammo was on sale, load up & shoot all day. Anymore, it doesn't like the Remington Bulk hollowpoints, but the solid nose feeds fine. Some of the CCI work fine as do the Federal bulk, but they seem to vary by batch.

I still have some 30 year old Remington Standard velocity ammo & it all feeds 100%.

I must be lucky at least at one thing! I've got 4 10-22's the oldest one is from about 1994. They all shoot everything I've ever tried. Right now that is bulk Rem. HPs and Federal bulk HPs. They even cycle with my 25rd BC mags. My boy goes through ammo faster than I can load the mags and that is with a mag loader. We hunt squirrel with sub-sonic CCI's or Aguila's and again they all cycle fine HPs and solids.
My Ruger 45-22 in another story though. With the Federal bulk HP's it's a single shot but it will shoot the Rem's all day.

Sure is strange, since my old Ruger Mk I works pretty well with the Fed, but is a feeding nightmare with the Rem bulk.

A while back, there was a guy & his GF and another friend, all shooting Sig Mosquitos. Each individual Mosquito had a definite ammo preference & they only had one box of ammo that would work in all 3 - some high-priced Eley Match ammo.

I let them all try some of my bulk Rem HP's and only one of the 3 would run with it without jamming.
