To All,

What does it signify to put a round in the muzzle of the barrel???

And then what is good/bad about it?

I don't think this is some male right of passage I've been deprived of so it must have some meaning.

Thanks,

Doug

It is a way to check and see if the lands are badly worn at the muzzle, generally from sloppy cleaning methods where the rod is used from the muzzle and wears them away. IMO it doesn't really tell you a whole lot since each rifle will vary to some degree and certainly types of ammo do too. About the most you can tell from a picture of a cartridge stuck nose first in a muzzle is if the rifle is counterbored or not.

I think it shows you that the crown of the rifle isn't badly worn.
