I just bought a Carcano, and the previous owner has painted the weapon tactical black and polyed the stock.
What is the quickest and easiest way to remove this awful paint , its even on the internal.

You'll probably just need to use a commercial type stripper from your local Ace or Tru Value hardware store. It will remove the paint and probably the poly but the poly will be the hardest to remove. The damage has already been done to the firearm so anything short of taking out a belt sander will probably be an 'improvement' albeit of little consequence....

I've removed poly from Remington rifle stock with a commercial product, Formby's I think. Slow process, waiting for the stuff to melt the poly. Just takes time and patience. I probably wouldn't do it again...

I'm in the process of cleaning a Finn M91 stock of Poly. I'm using denatured alcohol with 0000 steel wool to gently remove it. So far so good. I didn't want to use a stripper because I was affraid of damaging the finn glue on the splice.

The Candyman-like denatured alcohol scrub has taken the finish off so far, but the wood isn't as light as a stipper. I'm thinking of doing a BLO and Tom's 1/3 finish on it when clean.
