Is there some secret to removing the extractor on a Romanian Tokarev? If I try to tap the pin up (from inside the slide) it doesn't want to move. I'm afraid to beat on it too hard, in case there's some secret to getting it to move. Do I just need to try harder? Thanks.

I thought the pins were made to be driven down to remove. Never attempted that job. Perhaps someone else will know for sure. I wouldn't smack on anything too hard without getting an answer to that question first.

Up or down?

For the Chinese Tokarev you drive the pin up. But I understand the copies and variants aren't all exactly alike, so maybe the Romanian is different.

I tried pressing the extractor in to relieve pressure on the pin; no luck. The pin doesn't move either up or down. Maybe it's "stuck" with rust, but there was no rust anywhere on the pistol, just the usual brown that comes off on an oily cloth. Still puzzled.

Make sure you use a punch of the proper size to remove the extractor pin. The extractor and its spring are retained on the right side of slide by a vertical pin. This pin is driven out upward (driving pin out from inside of slide). Extractor and spring are removed toward the right. Here's a youtube video showing detailed disassembly. He didn't use the best tools but he got it done. Could've done without the background music as well. :) Extractor removal is 3 minutes into video. HTH
