Hello!

Like to make you aware of a thread concerning an extensively unmarked Remington Rolling Block in 50-70 US Govt Central Fire that may (appears to) have been part of an early contract Remington had with Danmark, in about 1866. http://www.theopenrange.net/forum/index.php?topic=6174.msg46539#new This investigation is also posted on Remington Arms Historical site (webaddress included in link above).

Hi Niklas,
Cant get access to the thread you linked. Dont wanna sign in for more "boards". Interested though. I have an interesting Swedish-made "Snider" in cal.12,7mm that I suspect may have been competing in Denmark for contract before they choosed the Rolling block.
Can you give us some summary on the Danish 50-70 Rem.?
Regards,
ARILAR:)

Not only is this topic off topic to this forum, these fellows are making up "facts" in the absence of anything substantive. They're simply filling in the empty spaces with uneducated guesses.

George Layman's book is, unfortunately, full of holes and errors.... especially in the Swedish section.

There's nothing about *that* rifle to discuss in *this* forum. It ain't Swedish, ya'know?

Actually, Dutchman, the origin of that rifle is now known and it is even less Swedish than it was before. See second link I listed, should you be at all interested in a bit of eastern USA Rolling Block history. Guess that Remington Rolling Blocks made by Remington and sold to Sweden are off limits too, since they are not Swedish either.

What is this, Niklas? Are you being sarcastic? Because you got told American rolling block topics are OT in this forum? Swedish rolling blocks - no matter who made them - aren't Off Topic in this forum.

Leave us be a benevolent gathering of like minds, Niklas, and not be hasty in throwing rocks at the tavern keeper because you couldn't get buttermilk and biscuits at the bar.
