Found this is my junk closet. Full 50 rd. box but the cases are commercial with no date. Can anyone enlighten me as to when they were made and issued.......and why?

I just read in Pate's book that the OSS ordered only 400 pistols but mistakenly ordered over a million rounds of ammo!

Surely they must have been commercial models?
If not and they were reworked GI guns then they are probably up there with the most collectable variations.
A million rounds, LOL, that's a lot of shooting for 400 pistols!
