Looking for my first sporter. Remington 798 looks great, I realize the action is Yugo which I am fine with if it is accurate. Not sure if I shoud go with the 798 or the standard 700 any one tried a 798?

As you can see from my sig, I have the 700BDM model. Not exactly what you were asking for, but very similar. My friend has the 798 and comparatively, IMO, there is little difference. Sure the trigger is different, the recoil is a little harder on the 798, but other then that, it's nothing to run to the store to get one or the other for.

My 700 ADL in .30-06 is also very accurate.

If I were getting a new one It would be a 798 as I never did care for the push feed 700. The 798 I saw didn't look too bad but they are over priced compared to a Charles Daly or Mark X.

I don't think, at this point, I'd get a Remington at all. If I were going for a bolt-action sporter, would probably get a CZ these days. If I did get a Remington, probably a 700. Have had an ADL for forty years and have never had a moment's problem with the push-feed or the extractor and ejector. In 308, and it is an honest minute of angle gun if I do my part and feed it good ammo.

Before I went full on "M-39", I hunted about 8 years 'round with a 700ADL, .243W
BrownBears, Muskox, Moose, Wolves, Black Bear, Jack Rabbits and Caribou by the ton ....all were started to the way to the dinner table with that same rifle.
I removed the comb and cheek wood, and slimmed up the front a bit , basicle lightening it as much as possible (Walking across Tundra, possessions ARE a burden)
I filed the rear sight level and flat, and removed the bead, that easily "rolls" to one side if hit or dropped, and squared off the top of the front sight for a nice fine blade.
No scope.

I lost it when our boat flipped on a floating log in the river, splash, right to the bottom....

700 ADL is a very popular, dependble, accurate Arctic hunting rifle, even in 30-06, a great round.
