If you are willing to spend a little extra for a nice scope, check out the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24. I was torn between a red dot or ACOG for my AR-15 for the longest time until I came across this really good value. Plus Vortex has a VERY good warranty system. The scope can be had on Amazon for $500, so you will also have to buy a mount.
