My eyes are starting to request some form of peep sight on my Marlin 1894 .44 mag. Has anybody any opinions/experience with the XS "ghost ring" sights vs. Lyman Receiver sights?

Have heard good things about the Ghost Ring sight, but never used them, so no opinion I'd call valid from this pew. I have a Williams receiver sight (can't recall which one by catalog number) on my 1894C in .357, and it sure makes life easier for me. Can hold them in the seven ring (tighter on a good day) regularly at 100 yards with that sight. From a supported position (gonna be honest here)....

Friend of mine with some sight issues got a set of XSs for his .357 Marlin 1894c. Factory sights proved to be inadequate for his needs, and these did the trick for him, turning a so-so performer in a real tack driver.

Thank you both for the replies! I know my Marlin is drilled and tapped on the upper left rear side of receiver for a Williams or Lyman style sight as well as the receiver top rear scope mounting holes, which I beleive the XS style will mount to.

If it's like the '94c, it should be able to mount the XS easily. I installed my friend's (He was having some troubles with his glasses and didn't want to scratch the rifle with the screwdriver; funny since I have myopia but wear contacts, so it was like a mole leading a bat) and didn't take me more than 5 minutes and a set of small gunsmith screwdrivers (Get a small sealed box to store the removed factory bolts).

As far as I recall, drift was adjusted by moving the rear sight ring's dovetailed base, but height needed something else and it's not quickly adjusted like the factory leaf. My friend set it to hit 6:00 @ 60 yards and p.o.i. @ 110 with his .357 cast reloads.
