I have a set of post 64 M-94 semi-finished stocks from Bishop in Warsaw, MO. I think they are out of business now. The wood is killer walnut fiddleback, both pieces front to back. I want to buy a post 64 M-94, restock it with this wood, and reblue it. I've heard that early post 64 M-94's are iron plated or some such and are not reblueable the usual way.

My question is: what serial range M-94 should I be looking for that is both post 64 and reblueable? (if any...)

They turn out red due to the alloys. Brownells has an additive that can be used with their salts on a one time basis. Since I don't like to get locked into having to buy extra products and I mix my own salts - I opt for rust blue finish. A lot more labor is involved, but the finish is better than using salts - that's just my opinion.

There is a guy in Connecticut who can reblue the rifle porperly. Mitchells gunsmithing I believe. I have seen a reblue job by him on a post 64 Winchester 94 and you could not tell it from a as new factory finish.

+1 Mitch and the folks who work for them do an excellent job. They are actually Gunsmithing Ltd now, and the moved to the old ruger plant on lacey street in Southport CT. They do a very good job at everything Ive seen them do.
