I picked up one of the Vz-24s in 7x57mm a couple weeks ago. It appears to have been one of the 15,000 Bruno made rifles that while originally for the south Chinese army (who could not pay) , ended up being purchased by the Constitutional Revolution folks in Sao Paulo Brazil in 1930. Unfortunately they lost their revolution against the Brazilian dictator and these rifles ended up with the Govt'.

Anyway, it is a standard Bruno export JC light weight model that currently weighs 8.5 pounds. The barrel is around 23.25 inches long.
There is the original factory serial number on the left side of the reciever. Mine is 4 digits,,, and then there is another serial number that I believe was added by the Brazilians on the right side of the receiver. PM06346.2,, Yeap there is a dot in front of the two. Plus there is some sort of brand or stamp mark on the right side of the stock just under the action.

I got this hoping it would be a good shooter, since the other guys have figured out that I will not be loosing the local Mauser Match if I keep bringing my Swede Mausers.

Boy was I wrong...

Range day was fading Alaskan winter light and the temp was positive 05 F or around Neg 15 C.

I fired 120 grain handloads, 139s, 150 grain boat tails, 154 grain flat base , 160 grain boat tails and 175 grain flat base and boat tails.

At 100 yards NOTHING hit the board much less the paper.

So I moved to target to 50 yards. that is when I discovered that it shoots a 15 inch wide pattern, not matter what ammo I had in the chamber,,,,,,!!!!!!!

Too bad since it is a sweet handling rifle with good natural balance.
The bore is worn but the pitting appears to be minimal.

So I recrowned the muzzle last night to see if that helps any. The muzzle was pretty beat. I
In fact when I found this rifle it was covered in reddish brown dried mud. There were even small rocks and sand lodged into the screw heads and inside the stock/ action.
But a couple of buckets full of mineral spirits helped it right along.

Anyone have good luck using cast lead slugs in worn out Mauser bores??

The way things are looking so far, I could darn near use those lapping bullets and make it into a 8mm after a 100 more rounds or so. BTW it looks shiney because it has ox-yoke wonder lube smeared all over it.
