Decided to have a shoot-out between my M96 Swede and M39 Moisin Nagant to decide which one to bring to the CMP Western Games.

Also brought M93 Turkish Mauser in 7.92x57 and CMP Underwood M1 carbine.

Attached are images of the morning's shoot, rifles and some targets.

Loads used were my handloads which have been consistantly accurate in a number of rifles:

6.5x55 Sierra 140 gr BTSP IMR 4064

7.62 x 54 Sierra 174 gr MK H4350

7.92 x 57 Hornady 150 gr H4350
Hornady 195 gr H4350

All 100yds off the bench.

The Swede pulled out ahead until I fired a group in the Turkish M93 using the Hornady 195 gr load - Wow!

The M39 usually shoots great but not so well today. I'm going to use the Swede because of greater adjustablility of the rear sight, but am temped to use the Turk.

Interesting comparison. Nice pics. What is your load for the Sierra 174 gr 7.62x54r H4350?

I usually use 51.5 gr. H4350 with the 174 gr. .311 Sierra Matchking. CCI 200 primer or Fed 210. Graf case. I have used up to 53.5 gr. of H4350 with good accuracy as well (same bullet). The 51.5 gr. is usually MOA in my Tikka 91/30.

For the M96 Mauser I use 39.9 gr IMR 4064 with the Sierra 140 gr Matchking, Lapua case CCI 200 primers.

Not using the Tikka for the shoot because the trigger is too light.

Before I read your post, I figured the Swede would come out on top.

Turks Underestimated and Undervalued

I've heard several reports about these and need to take mine out and try them. I have a 93 & 03, both with nice bores. When you look at the numbers there are probably fewer of these old WWI model Turks that survived and were rebarreled than some of the Finn Mosins.
