I got this awhile back and believe it to be a "real" sniper. I would though like to have some more experienced people take a look at it and let me know what they think about it. Some things about it seem odd to me and I'd just like a better idea of what it is I have here.
Gun itself is an Izhvesk 1943 Serial number HG 1196 all parts except for the Rear site spring are Izhvesk marked. Magazine plate is lined out and renumbered and butt plate is totally scrubbed with only faint remainders of earlier serial numbers. Bolt is numbered without the HG prefix. Serial number is imprinted on the stock as well. Font on the bolt seems to match that on the Barrel. Scope number on the left of the receiver was scrubbed. Gun is import marked on the Barrel on the right with the C.A.I St ALB. VT mark.
Scope and scope mount is what is odd..
Scope is one of the very early KMZ scopes with the Brass lens fittings. Serial numbered N102546. It carries a #15 on the recticle housing. Scope was clearly repainted but has no refurbishment marks. Paint on it appears to be the typical flaky black paint applied to many a Mosin rifle except it is on REALLY thick.
Base is Izhvesk marked as is the mount. On the mount it has electopenciled Both the Guns serial number and the scope Number. However it also has faintly a different scope number, also electropenciled, which appears to be B18930 above it...
Big question is was the Scope added by Century and the number penciled in by them? or was this done where ever this gun came from? How did this old KMZ scope get put on this gun? Why would this scope be put on this gun?
I can add more detailed photos if needed..
