I seen this listing on Guns America http://www.gunsamerica.com/900166429/Guns/Rifles/Savage-Rifles/Model-95-99-Family/99F_300_Savage.htm

It is lists as a Savage 99F. I never seen the checking pattern on the pistol grip or forearm before. The serial number is 1078xxx. The owner states it was manufactured in 1951, but I thought they were only made in 1955 to 1973 post war. Is this a 99F in your opinion and what is the true manufactuer date?

Serial number range for 1960 is ~ 600,000, so I'd say that rifle was made around 1970. Certainly not 1951.

Aside from the SN range, later Savage 99s have a Lever Boss Code (LBC) that is used to determine dates of manufacture
