A local shop has a Yugo captured K98 for $300. Condition is good but it is missing the cleaning rod. Is this a fair price? Thinking of buying it, providing it is still there. Opinions are greatly appreciated.

My best shooting Mausers are Yugo k98s--check the one you're looking at, most likely rebarreled.
$300 is not outside reality. Try $250 cash, 275 with a box or 2 of ammo thrown in...then "OK, 300" as a last resort!
FYI, I have bought 2 in the last 6 months, $175 (a steal!) and $260.

I purchased two 225 and 250 in the last week so not to bad of a price considering RCs or going up
Exactly. I personally consider RCs to be lower in quality (and value) than the largely unsung Yugoslav refurb K98 rifles.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I just got back from buying the rifle. Although the price had increased, they lowered it to the previous amount. It is missing the cleaning rod but I hope I can buy a replacement. Are there any rods that are interchangeable and where can I buy them? I will take some pics and post them later.

Just run a stiff wire, straightened coat hanger, down the hole till it stops, measure to center of frt sight. Either 10.5 or 12.5" so you don't have to be exact! Or knock the lower band forward a bit, if rod nut shows under bottom of band its 10.5, if not its 12.5.
