I was curious, since Lee doesn't make a 6.5 Arisaka crimp die (they do for 7.7mm), would a .257 Roberts crimp die work? I seem to recall that they were similar cartridges and many a T38 was converted to hunting rifles in that caliber.

Just my opinion, but since the Roberts is a .257 caliber and the bullet you will be trying to seat is a .264 . So the 257 die is the wrong size to crimp the larger bullet.
The Japanese is 6.5 X 50 mm, a more correct die to use on reformed brass would be the old 6.5 X 53, but that is a guess.

Actually the type 38s that were converted to roberts used a wildcat 6.5x.257 roberts, a .257 roberts necked up to .264. So the .257 die would not work. Its just my opinion, but since i don't load 6.5 for an MG I don't bother with crimping. I don't think it is necessary unless you plan on putting your ammo through hell.

Thanks for all the info Gents! I have used the 7.7 crimp die sporadically, but with good results when I needed it. I'll check on Lee's sight and see if I can get a price quote.
