Question about Collar tabs

1450 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  lcliffn48
I recently picked up these collar tabs at a local antique store. The little note with them states "Austria". If they are from there, what were they for and are they of any value? Thanks all..Cliff

Let me preface by saying that I am by no means an expert on Austrian uniforms or insignia. But I recently examined in detail a fabulous Imperial Austro Hungarian officers tunic a friend purchased from a local estate sale. It appeared to have collar and rank insignia embroidered directly into the collar. So I would be interested to know if the tabs you posted appear to be separate pieces once attached to a collar or if as on the tunic I mentioned embroidered on to it? In terms of a more precise ID for yours I would suggest waiting to see if any more experienced Imperial collectors respond here. Another suggestion would be to post to the GB WWI Militaria and Arms Forum.

Another resource for you would be 'The Emperor's Coat' by Ortner, Rest and Ilming, which as I understand is one of the best references on Austro Hungarian uniforms of the WW1 period.
