+1 to Marks_spas_12's comment.
We need to come up with something like m1895 forum is using.
http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Bunker/4064/PersCollection/M1895Survey/M1895Survey.html
Are there any computer gifted members here, who can create one/two page website? The link could be posted as "sticky".

Ideally you would want some sort of database driven, then people could list either what they are looking for or what they have and then compare...I'll see if I can whip up a simple site doing this sometime this afternoon.

Ok, I have thrown something together real quick before my meeting, so check it out, not everything is working, and any data entered may not last, I am looking mostly for what more content should be added! So let me know what you think.

Ok, I have made a few changes and everything seems to be functioning. Before I do much more I would like to know if this is kinda what people were thinking? I know there are no pretty colors, but is the content correct? If it seems a little slow it is running on one of my servers at home, so be gentle . Any thoughts for improvment, or if I should just scrap it, please let me know!

Unfortunately through testing I have had to clear out any data, so if you had put something in (I only saw a couple) it is gone, but I will try not to delete anymore data from here on out.

On the scope type you need to include SVT PU type

It's a good start, brockj
Just a few concerns here:
-How are we going to deal with Cyrillic prefix?
-Is the list arranged by number or by whoever enters the data first?
-I think we need to include manufacturer of the scope.
-Also, it would be helpful to have one more list for barrel shank number/year of Izhevsk rifles.

Now, If we come up with a match, who will be willing to give up rifle or scope?

And one more thing, are we going to list repro scopes as well?

No repros'. List just the scope serial number which would appear on the rifle. don't list the rifles serial number. Scope type would be sort of irrelevant.

Feldscher:
I am not sure how I could deal with crylic prefix, any thoughts?

The list is currently sorted by when data was entered, though I can sort it any way.

I can add a field for manufacturer, but I would need a list.

Everyone else:
Any other thoughts? I see a couple more people have added thier items, if thier are any mistakes made or changes anyone wants made, just PM me and I will make the change in the database. Also, if any one has any other ideas, even just colors, background, that kind of thing let me know, I am technical, but not artistic

-There are only three Cyrillic prefixes used at this time: À Á × (A, B, Ch). "A" is not a problem. "Á" can be substituted with "b" (since capital "B" is actually Cyrillic "V"). "×" is used on repros, so no need to worry about it.
Or you can use a drop box with "À", "Á" or "none" (just like the one you used for "type of scope").

-It will be much easier to check the list if it's in alphanumeric order.

-If manufacture is included, we'll need a reference list from Vic. A lot of members (including myself) are confused about some of the maker markings.

So the "yes" to own is ones you have to trade or sell to another memeber and the "no" means you need that scope correct??

Yeah sorry that is kinda confusing, yes if you own the scope check the box, I have made a slight change, hopefully this will make more sense.

DOH! I goofed. I accidentally listed it twice not really knowing how to list the year
My rifle is marked "4318765" on a 1943 rifle. I am told that means 1943 scope #18765. How would I list that?

This is a cool listing and I hope it helps us put rifles and scopes back together! If it works ONE time, it is a success. IMO.

TW1Kell,
It is my understanding that the scope number would be 4318765, that is why I listed mine as 4405839. Let me know and I will remove the one you want gone.

Thoughts on the (GREAT!) database.

Separate into multiple scope types - PU, SVT PU, PE/PEM?
This way people don't get excited about finding a scope number only to find its the wrong type of scope for their rifle.

List scopes only -no rifles?
If everyone actually lists their scopes, there is no need to list rifles....

I understand what Vic is saying about no repros, but if the lists were separated, a repro scopes list would give us an idea of the range of repro scope serial numbers.

Thanks,

tim

brockj, I guess I need the second one of mine listed removed. It would be "TW1Kell PU 1943-18765 No" That listing, the first non-SVT PU under my name. Thank you, very much!

HAHAHA! I think I am second-guessing myself, waaay too much!

That is my link...I still have all the data, but had to take the server offline as I was having issues with it. I plan on getting it back online as soon as possible.

As many of you already know, I developed a small website for matching parts, scopes and pretty much anything of that sort. Even though it is in development and will be for a while, it is operational and fully functional.
The system uses a search engine capable of matching partial and full serial numbers of English and Cyrillic type (or any other language for that matter). The results are returned sorted by the percentage matching. A very simple and convenient user counsel allows for easy personal scope/part collection management and includes a wish list with automatic notification.
The registration is a quick, one step process. Let's use is! :)
For now it can be accessed on my home machine at http://t1predator.homeunix.com/Gunboards.
Some time today or tomorrow I will move the first pilot version to a 24-hour fast server and continue developing it until it helps us do what we want to do: Match our parts.

Some features:
1. The system is completely anonymous in a sense that if your part is found your info is not given out. The finder can contact you through the system by providing you with their own name and email address. This gives the user an option to both reply or ignore.
2. The lists of firearms and their respective parts are dynamic and are meant to be maintained by the users themselves.
3. A small and easy to use section with a way to designate parts from different firearms as interchangeable. So, if you are searching for a magazine floor plate for an M91/30 and someone lists M44 magazine floor plate you will get a match (given the relationship has been put in place prior either by you someone else.
4. If a user adds a part you listed in your wish list, you will get notified!

Development:
1. Currently working on the administrative end of the system.
2. User control panel (My Stuff) will be updated to give the users more power over their messaging preferences, and info management.

Thanks guys

1944 Izhevsk Rifle, serial number 920 on barrel shank, receiver, magazine (can't tell what the serial number is on butt stock) and 920 electropenciled on scope mount, (has 920 on butt stock also). It has a very clean looking scope (no paint on it) with hammer & cycle, serial number 4423102. This number is electropenciled on scope mount. I purchased six of these in 2000 and this one is the most clean, having survived with only the smallest storage dings.
