Now here is an S98 variation you hardly ever see! It is a 1906 dated S98 that has been modified in Yugoslavia in the 1920s. As far as "Pristine WWI condition" goes, it is nowhere near being that, but it is an interesting addition to my small collection of yugoslavian modified S98/05 bayonets remade to the M24 and M24B pattern... This is the second S98 I've seen in a decade that has been modified to this configuration so I believe this is quite a rare variation. The S98/05s modified to this configuration are quite scarce, yet at least 20 of those turn up for every time I see one of these... So, I'm happy to have found it... :thumbsup:

S98 cut down with a standard yugoslavian M24 scabbard.

New crossguard that once had a yugoslavian muzzle ring that was again removed by the Germans during WWII, these bayonets really got around... And, there it is! The M24B (Cyrillic B) stamp.... Can't complain!

Only "ALE" remains of the old makers mark, I suppose that it was made by Alex Coppel. Note the square cleaning holes on the yugoslavian replacement grips....

These are very interesting reworks.
I have one that was reworked from a butcher bayonet.

So... what's this? I picked it up years ago. It was originally a Peruvian M1909 by Simson but the blade is cut to 15 1/4" and it's heavily blued. It also has the crude replacement grips that fit poorly, but with no cleaning hole. It retains the typical 5-digit serial number on the crossguard with no other markings other than the remnants of the Peruvian crest on the pommel butt (the crest was polished down prior to the blue job I reckon).

Stede I have 2 of the officially shortened Peruvians I was working in Lima and picked them up about 15 years ago yours seems to be reworked by bubba.Here's a couple of photos along with my M24

Stede's bayonet is not a Bubba rework. Some years ago these bayonets - mostly without scabbards - were put on the market.
Mine is also blued - has rest of crest - is made by Simson and has Peruvian serial

This variation of a reworked German S98 is rare! Besides being shorted & repointed, it's all heavily blued. New cross guard with muzzle ring is added. the grips are brand new, with Yugo slashes. It got a new Yugo mfd scabbard. When the Germans overran Yugoslavia in 1941 they captured & reworked a lot of bayonets. The muzzle rings went. the more common reworks were S98-05's which had a stronger blade. Since no German troops had these in use, we can speculate they were issued to satellite troops. Took me a long time to find mine! now I need the Yugo one unaltered by the Germans!
