Quite a photographic history!
One correction I might add to photo 104 - neither atomic bomb hit the ground. They were air bursts.

Excellent photo essay! Many pics in there I've never seen before.
#19 is an interesting shot of Vought SB2U- Vindicators in formation. Never seen that before. They appear to be flying over the USS Ranger, which would then place this in the Atlantic.

Great set.
Just a few days ago, I saw an ad for a four disc set of stills and film clips which included about a half dozen of these.

My dad took part in the Leyte landing, having been transported from New Guinea (Buna?) on the USS Sheridan-APA51, which was one of the ships at the surrender.
