My friend has a pre 1898 muzzle loader rifle he thinks, in Switzerland. Is there any special paper work needed to ship it to the states? Does he need to contact an exporter? Thanks in advance.
You need to go to the State Department's website and ask them what he needs to do. Or you can contact an importer and they will do all the work for him for a fee.
Federal antique status fire arms require no paperwork to bring in, local or state regs may be another matter, that whole "not legal in Kali/NJ/Mass stuff... A muzzle loader requires no importer since it is exempt under Federal regs but if it is not an antique it may have customs duties owed...
I have had antique rifles mailed directly to me from England and Switzerland.
